What am I talking about?
The older I get, the more clear it becomes, that...
the less time I spend frantically trying to 'deal with' today's work - and the more time I spend thoughtfully 'directing it' - the better.
Sure, easier said than done. That's a given.
But, it doesn't change the truth of the approach.
So, how do we get there?
How do we get to this paradise of not having to frantically 'chase our tails' to keep up with the daily stream of pressing issues that seem to come flying at us from all directions?
.. the way the 'wise' ones suggest we eat an elephant - ONE bite at a time.
It's the only way, the way it's always been.
It's the way the most complicated problems are solved.
One step at a time.
My business partner Tony is smart, logical - an effective problem solver.
And, his advice is - no matter how technical or difficult the problem:
the answer is almost never found from a sudden burst of miraculous insight, but rather....
from the process of breaking down the problem into its component parts to see how it actually works (step by step)...
and then discovering where the process is broken (not working as we'd like).
How to get things running smoothly so you can 'direct the' work rather than simply 'deal with' the work?
Procedure by procedure. 'Brick by brick'. System by system. Policy by Policy.
