Get to the POINT

We generally have one – a point, that is.

We want to explain something. We want to convince someone.

In business, we might want to train, motivate or correct someone. Or sell them something.

Today’s message is:

Have a clear message (point)

Be prepared to make it (presentation)

Make it compact and timely (powerful)

May seem obvious, I know. But, it wasn’t obvious to me for a long time.

Let me explain….

My wife and I have 3 great kids.

But, kids being kids – they can really keep you honest.

It didn’t take long to realize how short a period of time a parent can actually keep their child’s active attention… before their eyes begin to roll away with disinterest.

It’s natural – children can have short attention spans – especially when boring dad’s droning on about something he needs them to do – or do better… ugh.

But here’s the thing….

It’s not just kids – people, in general, have short attention spans too.

Yep, that includes clients, prospects and employees.

Heck, us too.

Now, we can ‘fight it’ to some degree by keeping our presentations and explanations interesting and full of energy.

But, the truth is – we may all be well served – by simply recognizing this tendency in everyone, and coming up with a strategy to EFFECTIVELY deal with it, such as:

…having a clear point and getting to it ‘sooner rather than later’ when we’re talking with everyone – from prospects and clients to cleaners and managers.

Seems everyone appreciates clarity and brevity.
