Stop by the Buildings You Want to Clean – You Don’t Need to Be Perfect.
What You’ll Learn
- Stop in at buildings to introduce the company
- Give a card even when it feels clumsy
- Keep relaxed during the introduction
Short Summary
Many owners wait until the first talk sounds perfect and smooth every time. That wait means fewer visits to new companies in the area. A building owner or front desk staff often accepts a clumsy hello. Many offices already get nonstop phone calls and cold email pitches. A short stop-by visit feels like a real local cleaning contractor. The owner can say what the company does, then hand over a card calmly. Stay relaxed so the talk sounds normal, not cold or stiff. Pick one nearby building and stop by this week.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if the owner feels nervous during the first visit?
Nerves are common. Keep the talk short and calm.
Is a perfect talk needed to get taken seriously?
No. A normal talk often sounds more real.
Who is best to speak with in the office?
Start with the receptionist or front desk staff. A building owner may not be free.
Is it okay to only leave a card?
Yes. Leaving a card is fine for a first hello.
Why does a stop-by visit work better than a cold email?
Many offices get many phone calls and email pitches. A visit shows a local cleaning company is nearby.

Hi there, and welcome back. Dan again from CleanGuru.
Today I’d like to talk about perfect, and how we can’t often be perfect. In fact, I kind of messed up the beginning there, didn’t I? But hopefully you’re still listening to me.
We’re all going to make lots of mistakes, just like I did. But I think a lot of times, building owners, secretaries, receptionists, the people in the office when you go to introduce yourself, they can be very understanding too. It’s not perfect that we’re going to get.
Perfection can often be our enemy. What do they say? Perfect can get in the way of the good. What we’re looking for is to grow our businesses, to get out there and meet lots of companies.
So when you stop in, if you don’t give the perfect presentation, if it kind of fumbles when you drop off your card or you introduce yourself, try to keep this in mind: it’s okay. Most of the time, people will understand. They appreciate, a lot of times, that you stopped in because you’re a real cleaning contractor, building service contractor in their area.
They are swamped with telephone calls and cold emails and everything trying to introduce cleaning companies. But what about someone stopping into their building? There’s some, but there’s not tons of it. So when you’re there, they notice: This is a real cleaning contractor in my area. This is interesting. It has more power to it.
And does it have to be perfect? No. Just something to remember. People are more understanding than you think, and we all get better as we do it. Time after time, we do better.
And by the way, sometimes giving that perfect presentation or introduction comes off kind of cold. Sometimes when we make mistakes and we’re more normal about it and just relaxed, it comes across better—not so formal and standoffish and professional. Sometimes perfect can be a problem.
So don’t worry so much about perfect. Just follow your instinct to get out there and meet people. I think that’s the big thing.
Till next time, remember you can do this. You really can.
